I first heard the term art car in about 1993, when I happened to catch a film called Wild Wheels, by Harrod Blank, on PBS. I thought it was fantastic, and bought a copy of it on videotape, along with the accompanying book. Within the next few years, Mr. Blank produced another film and another book, establishing himself as the world's leading documentarian of car artists and their works. I eagerly bought them as they were published, and fell in love with the notion of driving a unique automobile of one's own creation.

In 2000, I went to the annual Art Car Weekend parade in Houston, which is the world's biggest gathering of art cars each year. This was my first encounter with art cars in person, and lemme tellya, you must see them in person to fully appreciate them! Photographs just can't do justice to these rolling sculptures. Some are better than others, of course, but the best ones are absolutely stunning.
So now I knew for sure that I would create an art car!
